An accomplished painter, fashion and costume designer, prolific Canadian-Persian artist Nilufar Moayeri gained international attention in 2012 by Art Monaco, when her work was exhibited next to masters like Pablo Picasso. Recently, the celebrated artist added writer/film director to her list of accomplishments, with her short movie titled “Amore Mio Firenze” – shot on location in Florence, Italy.
Iranian-born, Nilufar spent much of her childhood in Turkey, where she became one of that country’s most prominent artists, as well as a well-known art educator at the Pera Academy, Istanbul. She holds a BA in painting from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, and an MFA and PhD from Beykent University. She is now the Academic Director of North Vancouver’s Pera Fine Arts Academy, where she teaches painting classes and workshops.
Nilufar’s paintings hang in private collections in several countries, and have been presented widely in international galleries in Istanbul, Toronto, Paris, Peking, Florence, Rome, Milan, Brussels and Vancouver. She has also taken part in a number of Art Expos in New York. Today, Nilufar’s works can also be found in a number of galleries in West Vancouver and Vancouver.
Through her art pieces, Nilufar evokes feelings of nostalgia and playfulness; while at times challenging sociopolitical ideas. Her work, says Nilufar seeks “to deeply articulate feelings and stories, which make them memorable.”
