For Chef Behshad, cooking was more than a pastime; it was a family affair. Raised by two grandmothers, a bevy of aunts, and parents with remarkable culinary skills, food was always about love and connection. “Growing up, we treated food as a celebration of family,” Behshad recalls. This philosophy would later resonate in his cooking, inspiring a career defined by precision, innovation, and heart.
His culinary journey began humbly, working a forno oven at Earl’s Tin Palace in North Vancouver during his teenage years. It wasn’t long before his talent and drive led him to graduate from the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, paving the way for a globetrotting career. From Michelin-starred kitchens like Ristorante Mamma Angelina in Rome, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in London, and Jean-Georges in New York City, Behshad absorbed world-class techniques that would later define his style.
Returning to Vancouver, he made his mark as Executive Chef at establishments such as Café Ça Va and Rive Gauche Bistro, earning accolades like the ‘Best North Shore’ award from Vancouver Magazine in 2017. His journey also included culinary leadership at Served Catering, Seaside Provisions, and Frankie’s Italian Kitchen & Bar before finding his true calling at C|Prime.

One of Behshad’s key principles is respect for ingredients. “We treat vegetables the same way we treat Japanese Wagyu—with care and reverence,” he shares. This ethos drives the restaurant’s commitment to sourcing fresh, seasonal ingredients from local producers, while meats like Wagyu and prime cuts from Australia and the U.S. take centre stage. Canadian waters provide the seafood, ensuring every dish tells a story of quality and place.
The menu at C|Prime evolves 3–4 times a year to reflect seasonal bounty, a testament to the chef’s belief that no recipe is ever perfect. “Cooking is about constant evolution,” Behshad notes. For example, his beef tartare with bone marrow elevates the classic dish with a luxurious touch that delights both the palate and the eye.
